I am scared of applying for jobs due to bad references?

if your in England it is illegal for an employer to give a bad reference, the worst they are allowed to say is that you worked for them between such a date and when you finished, they do not have to give you a glowing reference but they cannot say anything bad or you can sue them, hope this helps and stops you worrying, i know i have employed people.
