An-ovulation.... ????? Please read need info!?

So 56 day cycle, then finally spotting last night, bright red, kind of weird. Not a flow yet, Went to the Dr. today she said i could be Not ovulating, Im 20 yrs old, how is that even possible. Is this Mega early menopause or what? She checked my thyroid but wont get results for several days! My last period was Nov. 22nd. I have one child, he is 4. ive never had any problems with my cycle, this is ALL new! Why is this happening? And is it hereditary, is it common or uncommon?? Married and not ttc, but also i just want my body to be functioning normally!! Dr prescribed pills to take that make me have a period. Will these help me get on track and have regular periods and ovulate?
