Is a tattoo of a cross a sin?

I recently got a Tattoo of the cross on my forearm and beneath it it says "matthew 6:34" and its filled in black. Its really big and black. I thought it would have been a good idea to connect to God in this way because i felt detached. I understand that this was a grave misunderstanding and i should have prayed for further insight of the matter but Im extremely saddened as to if God is willing to forgive my actions and if i should have it removed or if should protect it considering that it is a Holy icon. I've been digging around the internet and i have yet to find another person who has been brash as i have. I know that i have sinned against the Lord and i am repenting with every living ounce of energy that i have and its driving me insane because i feel detached from Christ. If anybody out there who could guide me or help me in any way it would be greatly helpful.
